thoughts on marriage

A modest proposal

Carter and I were on the way home from playgroup last week and he said,

“I think I might marry Anneka.” Then, after some quiet moments, “But I’d still be best friends with Robby for ever and ever and ever.”

“But if I got married, Mom, you know we’d have to move.”

Later I was recounting the story to Kevin, who asked where they would move-

“Within 30 miles of Aunt Meg.”

A few days later we invited Anneka over to play, and they were using the walkie talkies when Carter popped the question.

“Anneka, will you marry me?” (Radio silence, followed by an uncertain “yes”)

“Or, we could just buy a house together.”

Anneka responds excitedly, “Yes, let’s do that!!”

Carter: “But before we do anything, we have to ask our parents.”

Good to know he’ll ask me before deciding to live in sin. . . .
