A Perilous Journey From Delivery Room to Bedroom – New York Times

A Perilous Journey From Delivery Room to Bedroom – New York Times

Oh. For. Heaven’s. Sake, and give me a break already.

A column outlining the risks a couple faces by allowing the father to witness the birth of their child- the “risk” being a loss of sexual interest after seeing “that.” (Presumably, “that,” refers to a stretched perineum) Actually describing men with PTSD as a result of being present for a vaginal birth.

So I’m in labor, preparing to bring a new life into the world, and for the record, in some mighty intense pain, misaligning my pelvic bones for years to come, and I’m supposed to worry about my partner’s delicate sexual psyche?

Do you think next week they’ll do a column about the risks of a woman never wanting you bringing your own sexual equipment within a mile of her after giving birth? That might actually have some reality base to it.

Perhaps these men could be counseled to take their relationship to a level somewhere beyond outward appearances. To survive the sleepless nights of parenthood, the constant challenges and roller-coaster ride of development, their connection needs to be deeper than a pretty perineum.
