For those of you who will never see my house:
We have friends coming in over the weekend. I’ve known for two months. In fact, for two months, I’ve talked about how great it is that we have friends coming so I’ll get off my butt and organize the house. So, with 48 hours left, here’s a brief list of trouble spots:
1. The carpet is coming up and staples are sticking out where the “living room” meets the “kitchen/walk-in closet”. The orange electrical tape just isn’t holding it together anymore.
2. The tiles are still off the wall in the bathroom, despite father-in-law’s attempt at getting us started on that repair, ummm, two years ago.
3. ugly carpet covered in stains
4. Guest room futon buried in crap
5. Can’t open guest room door due to crap on floor
6. Bathroom floor covered with clothes and sand from yesterday’s park run.
7. Laundry stalled due to strange sounds from the drier combined with stinky comforter
8. Desk top covered in papers, possibly important, get out of jail free cards.
9. Ironweed blocking the front walkway
10. Overgrown grass blocking the front yard
11. mismatched shoes in large box blocking the door to the seldom used (but probably handy with an extra family here) bathroom.
12. Space storage bags (yes, the kind from tv) randomly strewn about, some full but leaking, so basically, they are large transparent trash bags of clothing, rather than the compact bricks of neatly stored bedding on the commercial.
13. Kitchen table covered in hooks- (Oh! I’ve been looking for those! I can install those in the hall closet now) salt, New York Times (two weeks worth of Science Times, now that another Tuesday has come and gone) and random V-Tech toys.
14. Stairway to basement playroom covered in cobwebs.
15. Basement playroom covered in toys
16. Hallway full of crap.
17. Garage full of crap.
18. Entertainment center covered in crap.
Perhaps a to-do list would help me get a grip here.
To Do List:
1. Move crap from hallway
2. Move crap from guestroom
3. Move crap from bedroom.
4. Change sheets.
5. Find sheets that are clean.
6. Move crap from bathroom.
7. Move crap from Living room
8. Move crap from entertainment center
9. Clear off desk
10. Make a special “cleaning” I-tunes mix
11. Browse through cookbooks for something yummy
12. Cut marshmallows for school bake sale
13. Clean stains from carpet.
14. Give up on carpet
15. Pull stinky comforter out of drier
16. Mow lawn
17. trim ironweed
18. Rent storage space for crap, or light a fire in the backyard.
So far, I’ve moved a little crap around and made a great i-tunes cleaning the house mix. It’s down to 30 hours now.
