Alfordances

Well, if it is indeed predestined for Steve Alford to come coach at IU, then there’s no time like the present. With Coach Davis’ Hoosier career officially over with a tough loss to a great Gonzaga team, Alford’s convenient early exit makes him fair game (with permission from Iowa) to start talking the talk now.

I hope we get someone else, if only because what we need even more than “one of our own” (as Davis put it before his resignation) is someone to chart a new course. The Zags coach, Mark Few, is on my short list, as is Dana Altman. If we are going to go with an IU guy, my hope is for Keith Smart, who did a great job in the pro circuit as an interim head coach a few years ago. It would be fun to see what he would do with fellow JUCO transfer Calloway.

Nice season, Hoosiers. Nothing to be ashamed of.
