Talking (Mutual) Politics in SL

Even virtual me tends to ramble.

The sad old man sitting in the photo above is my avatar, Old McDunnough. Some day I’ll carry the joke past his name and build him a virtual farm with cows and pigs. But today, Old ran a session of RootsCampSL on “A New Philosophy of Politics.”

It was a chance to share some of my work on Mutual Politics and discuss the ways we conceive of politics, both as a framework for discussion and through online tools. I was too nervous to type much in situ, so I spent much of the day working on various short statements to cut-and-paste. As a result, even though I only used about half the material I typed up (I typed a lot freehand during the session, too), it felt less discussive and more lecture. But it also allowed me to potentially plant links to WebLab and the Stone Center in the blogosphere, should anyone write about it.

And shockers: Somone actually knew of WebLab! That’s the first time that’s happened when I mentioned it.

The other cool thing for the day is that one of the Campers is spearheading a move to buy an island tonight, before prices change in Second Life. That will become a progressive playground, and give this group a place to come back and meet on a weekly basis. So the whole thing doesn’t have to end with RootsCampSL today.

He didn't, however, think up this profile.
