Recess

Carter, Archie and I went over to his school today for outside runabout time, and he gave me a tour, including all of the “mysteries” that he and Maddie attempt to solve during school.

At one point we were looking in a large drainage pipe, covered by bars about four inches apart.

Carter: See? In there, are large rocks, the same distance apart. We wonder who is putting them there. (pause) or what. (Indeed, there are large limestone chunks scattered throughout the pipe)

Me: I wonder what, or who could fit through these bars?

Carter: Well, that’s why we’re pretty sure it’s a mole. It has to be small enough to fit through the bars, but strong enough to carry rocks. (pause) I mean, it could be a penguin, but they don’t live here, so we think it’s a mole.

Then later, he explained the friendship continuum:

Carter: At first, when I first meet them, their friendship to me is this big (holds hands together, prayer style, in front of him) and their annoyingness is this big (spreads hands wide). Then, I get to know them and the annoyning part is this big (prayer-style again) and the friendship part is this big (spreads hands as wide as they can go). Then, I know they are my friend!

Later:

Carter: My favorite playground rule is that we aren’t allowed to shoot people, even in pretend.

Least favorite rule? We can’t play in the sandbox, because we’ll get sand in our shoes and then bring it inside.

What the?? Why do they have a sandbox then…? You SO have to move Carter to our school!

I love his description of friendship – he is so good at going to the heart of things 🙂

I think Carter’s described friendship perfectly with his friendship continuum. What a sweetie 🙂

Bummer about the sandbox…that would be my least favorite rule, too.
