First Day of School

We cross 10th street to school
Carter and company brave the highway on their own to start a new year of school.

Carter had his first day of school last week- so far, he loves it. I am less than thrilled with the sticker charts that permeate the air, but Carter loves it all.

We ordered a special “messenger bag,” (we are forbidden to call it a school bag, back pack, or anything other than the correct nomenclature).

Carter verified everything was in it before leaving– triple checking at least. Then we packed up and headed across the street.

That’s the messenger bag on my shoulder (a-hem) and that’s his school across the highway. No crossing guard, no sidewalks. A bus would pick up Carter if we chose to drive him the half block, but no one will make safety considerations for walkers.

Once there, Carter beelined for his seat and rechecked his school supplies.

He then surveyed the room a bit and waved us away.

A side note– I made Carter’s “back to school” t-shirt with Sharpies and a stained white t-shirt.

Aw, it’s nice to “see” the boys (and you!) again 🙂 You’re right, we should have gotten some pics in Chicago…

I’m glad the first day of school was a success. We’re at 18 days left in the countdown. After all these years I haven’t gotten used to how late Eastern schools start. And it just feels wrong when the kids are in school until almost Independence Day…

Cool shirt! It’s supposed to rain here for the next four days. I sense a new craft project in the works – thanks for the inspiration 🙂
