A few weeks ago our neighbor graciously loaned us one of her lawn mowers, perhaps because she feared losing her house in the overgrown lawn. . . .
It was bad enough that I couldn’t start it without the fortuitous drive-by of our lawn guy, who taught me how to prime it and get it going, but after about 1/3 of the front yard, it stopped working completely. No amount of priming or flailing would help, and believe me, I did both.
Kevin tells me that he believes in computers and electronic equipment resetting during a rest, so if TIVO’s acting crazy we try to leave it alone for a while- which is the approach I took with the mower. I huffed inside and ate lunch. (I should note, Kevin has never told me that this approach actually works with gas mowers, but I had no other ideas).
After Kevin got home, I decided to give it one last go and lo and behold, it had reset itself! I successfully mowed our front lawn. Of course, the next day the motor came off the top when the last bolt holding it together popped off while doing the back.
This evening, I got up the nerve to tell our neighbor that I’d lost all the bolts holding her mower together. She apologized for not knowing that it was missing bolts and mentioned that she noticed it sitting idle in our yard and took some of her lunch break to gas it up and check the oil.
So, to sum up, I broke her mower, she fixed it, I thought it fixed itself, so I broke it again.
