Dear Pat Forde,
And WHY is Indiana included in your article on elite program cheating?
Let me get this straight. You write about an layman’s correlation between winning championships and cheating/breaking NCAA rules (which, for the record, may not even be the same thing). You point the finger at some elite programs as a result. In the ESPN teaser on the front page of the site, you list Indiana first along with Kansas, UNC and UCLA as programs not being immune to “the dark underbelly of college basketball.” Then, in the article, you imply through association that Indiana’s program — with it’s five titles and lack of major NCAA infractions — should be swallowed in the same spoonful as Kansas and Kentucky? Even the Tarheels and Duke (who isn’t even mentioned in the teaser) had at least one infraction to qualify them for inclusion.
Who knows? Maybe Kelvin Sampson’s success here will be partially defined by similar cheating. Until then, try to remember that your nemesis Bobby Knight is no longer with the program and give the school’s track record the respect it deserves.
