Good mail, bad mail

First the bad:

Greetings-

The lottery for the student volunteer spots at CHI 2007 has been run, and you are on the waitlist for a spot. Unfortunately, we had many more applicants than positions available, so could not accomodate everyone.

As the conference approaches, continue to check your spot on the waitlist. SVs drop for various reasons, and in the past the waitlist has had considerable movement. Thanks for your interest, and we hope to see you at CHI 2007.

Cliff and Kirstie

Yours truly is #168, looking to move up. I think Josh got in after being buried on the waitlist last year, so there’s still hope.

The good was a tip from Erik on a book that has some relvance to my interests. It will be a holiday read for me, if not sooner. Thanks. Erik, btw, is #18 the above list (still listing his alma mater, though).

By Kevin Makice

A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. He didn't, however, think up this profile.

My wife rocks. As I took the boys back to read tonight &mdash I told Carter “To Kill a Mockingbird” as their bedtime story — Amy went out to do an errand. That errand turned out to be the book Erik recommended, Infotopia.
