Blow my horn

Archie’s going through a hitting phase lately. He’s unsuccessfully attempting to merge his violence and threats with our gentle parenting attempts at providing reasonable choices and limits. Observe:

Archie: I want to watch something when we get home.

Me: We’ve got the TV off during the week. You can play outside with me, or we could go to the store.

Archie: I WANT TO WATCH SOMETHING WHEN WE GET HOME!

Me: You can choose to play outside with me, or we can go somewhere, but we are not watching TV.

Archie: THESE ARE THE RULES. THESE ARE THE CHOICES. I CAN WATCH SOMETHING OR I CAN HIT YOU!

Me: Hitting hurts, Archie. You may not hit me. You can tell me-

Archie: THESE ARE THE RULES! I WILL HIT YOU!

Me: You know, Archie, I’ve got to say– using choices and then throwing in threats of violence really (pause to find a substitute for “pisses me off”) honks my horn.

Archie: (pondering my choice of words for a moment) NO. Mommy. Yous honk yours own horns.

The Horn honkinator

I’m pretty sure he honks my horn.
