Dalton Wants to Be A 1/2-Millionaire
DePauw Alumnus Mike Dalton took time out from his busy career as a graduate student to play a little game last Sunday night. By the end of the night, he was a half-million dollars richer.
After being dared by friends to put his mountain of useless information to the test, Mike logged on to GoldPocket.com’s Live Trivia game show. Conducted every week, GoldPocket.com allows an unlimited number of players nationwide to go head-to-head to win a $1 million prize. As is the modern tradition in the genre, the one player left standing at the end of the hour is given the opportunity to make a final, $1 million question or walk away with $500,000. Dalton, on reaching the final question, chose the $500,000 option.
The Boston-based GoldPocket Interactive company is the first company to develop technology that enables millions of people to participate simultaneously in real-time interactive events on a single Web site. More than $7.5 million has been given away to date since the site launched.
Mike had been putting off having an end-of-the-year party while working on his dissertation work, “Comedy — in Plays, Literature and Film,” at Indiana University. Now, he says, he is scheduling it for Labor Day weekend. “Now bigger and better than ever,” he predicts.

Theisen Published in Aquarium Magazine
Dan Theisen took time out from his daycare duties caring for his children to write an article that has been published in “Freshwater and Marine Aquarium Magazine,” a publication dedicated to the tropical fish enthusiast. The article — “Is It Time to Upgrade Your Pet Shop?” — is featured as a teaser title on the August 2000 cover.
Kristn Theisen was particularly pleased by this development. Projecting the $75 paycheck, she estimated that Dan “only needs to sell 57 articles a month,or 684 a year and we’d be set!” Kris currently works at Devro-Teepak, the leading manufacturer of casings for the food industry.

Andy Rosater Dies at the Hospital
Tragedy struck the Rosater family earlier this week when their newest son, Andy, died just prior to birth. The baby boy proved too mobile in the uterus and pinched off the umbilical cord while Jo Rosater was at the hospital to induced.
Steve, Jo and PJ request that you do not send flowers but rather keep the Rosater family in your prayers.
Hartman-Montgomery Announce Engagement
On July 30, Christopher Hartman and Leigh Montgomery announce their engagement to be married. Chris proposed as the couple visited the Rare Book Room at the Boston Public Library.
Mendelsohn to Teach Drama as Proviso West
Mark Mendelsohn returned from a camping trip in the Rockies at the end of July to discover that he had been hired as a drama teacher at Proviso West, a west suburban high school near Chicago. Mark attended Southern Illinois University and DePaul University studying acting and theatre before pursuing a teaching degree.
The erstwhile actor/waiter/biker/teacher is spending the month of August cramming for his new duties. “Karma demands that I continue to make sacrifices at the bloody altar of Theatre,” writes Mark, “so I’ve been burning the midnight oil sharpening up the knives.” Describing himself as “excited/terrified,” Mark apologized in advance for the hysterical midnight phone calls to fellow SIU alumni begging for ideas.
