Stumped

I want to preface this by saying that I’m pretty certain Carter doesn’t know the expression, “dumb as a stump.”

We’re driving to preschool when he asks who the president of China is. Neither of us know. We make some suggestions as to other people he can ask.

Carter: “Maybe I can ask my teacher.”

Me and Kevin: Sure.

Carter: Maybe Angie knows.

Me: I’m sure someone at Hoosier Courts knows.

Carter: Maybe I can ask someone there.

Me and Kevin: Sure

Carter: Maybe Aunt Meg knows. Maybe I could ask her!

Me and Kevin (with less certainty): Sure. (reflecting on Aunt Meg’s lack of interest in current news)

Carter: Or maybe a stump would know.

Me and Kevin: a stump?

Carter: Yeah. I could ask a stump!
